I’m doing NaNo! Join! It’s a daunting task, but hey, if you don’t finish, no harm no foul. It’s still fun to do, and it’ll get you back in that writing groove.

Hey Trey! I’ve attempted NaNo at least twice. I always get overwhelmed by the amount they want to write too, so I’m taking a more realistic approach this time around.

I’m going to use it as a chance to be as creative as possible, but I won’t beat myself up if I don’t end up with 50,000 words. Like you, I have a MASSIVE fantasy world that’s continually evolving in my head, and it’s ridiculously difficult to sort it out at this point. But, I’ve decided that I still want to try. I don’t think I’d be able to die happy if I didn’t at least attempt to do one novel for these characters that have grown to mean so much. So, I’m going to attempt ONE novel (or a collection of short stories) and see where that goes.

No idea yet if any of them will make an appearance in NaNo, but we’ll see what happens. (I made a Google doc just for quick story ideas I have. It’s amazing the different random things that pop into my brain. lol!)

    Good luck!!

Oh Trey, even the story of how you used to write stories is vivid and filled with passion. I really feel like this is something you should pursue as a long term goal and this NaNo event sounds like the ideal opportunity to flex the thought muscles you say have quieted. I just reread your Doven Staul hook and I still feel like I’m about to embark on the adventure myself. Its okay to have a little ego sometimes, although as an artist I know it can be hard to judge yourself positively when you notice every little thing that you might have done wrong. What I find that helps is to sleep on it. I never would have finished any of those drawings on my Facebook if I had gone with my initial opinions of my own works. Letting myself sleep on it allowed me to better appreciate my own accomplishment and I would be more forgiving of the mistakes that gave my art character.
